From 2010 to 2017 Rebekka Marpert studied Art History, Film Studies and Educational Studies at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. There she worked as a tutor and as a student and graduate assistant at the Chair of Art History. In her masterthesis she wrote about Repräsentationen des Ersten Weltkrieges – Otto Dix‘ Kriegstriptychon als Synthese und Ausnahmefall [representations of the Great War – Otto Dix‘ wartriptych as synthesis and special case]. Since Juli 2017 she is an associated member of the Europäisches Kolleg Jena. Since October 2018 she is a member of the Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen (Germany).
Research project
Action, reaction, transformation: The GDR in the art after the fall of the Berlin Wall (working title)
The PhD project has an arthistoric perspective and investigates how the GDR is remembered in contemporary art after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The body of works is distilled under the term Wendekunst . Inside this body of works the topics are on one hand life in the GDR, on the other hand the transformation process which began with the reunification. Theoretical foundation offers the current discourse about the handling with history in contemporary art (Adorno, Rebentisch, Foster, Godfrey and other things) as well as the study of culture (Assmann, Erll and other things) and social science about memory culture.
